The AMPAS which stands for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science presents ceremony of the 88thAcademy Awards for the purpose of honoring 2015’s best films. The schedule for this to take place is on the twenty-eighth of February, 2016 in Hollywood, CA at the Dolby Theater. This starts at Pacific Standard Time of 5:30 in the afternoon. As the program goes on, each Academy Award will be presented in twenty-four categories. Referred to as the Oscars commonly, this ceremony can be viewed on television Channel ABC in the USA. Reginald Hudlin and David Hill will produce the show. Glen Weiss directs the ceremony. For the second time in the history of the show, the host of the show is going to be Chris Rock. In 2005 he had also hosted the 77th ceremony.

The Grand Ballroom

The Seventh Annual Governors Awards were held by the Academy at Hollywood’s Grand Ballroom and Highlands Center. This is a related event to the Academy Awards and took place on the fourteenth of November 2005. Jason Segel and Olivia Munn also hosted a ceremony on the thirteenth of February, 2016 at the Beverly Hills’ Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This ceremony was the Academy Awards for Technical Achievement.

Nominees and Winners

For this year’s awarding, each nominee was announced on the fourteenth of January 2016 in Beverly Hills, CA at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Ang Lee and Guillermo del Toro were the directors that announced the nominees along with John Krasinski, actor and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy. The most nominations were received by The Revenant. In second place was Mad Max: Fury Road. The most nominations were received for the 2nd year consecutive by one of the films done by director Alejandro G. Inarritu.

Best Actress

The nominations for best actress include Saoirse Ronan as Eilis Lacey, Charlotte Rampling as Kate Mercer, Jennifer Lawrence as Joy Mangano, Brie Larson as Joy Newsome and Cate Blanchett as Carol Aird.

Best Actor

Nominees for best actor include Eddy Redmayne as LIli Elbe, Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs, Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, Matt Damon as Mark Watney and Bryan Cranston as Dalton Trumbo.

Best Picture

The nominations for best picture include Spotlight, Room, The Revenant, The Martian, Mad Max: Fury Road, Brooklyn, Bridge of Spies and The Big Short.

Best Director

The nominations for best directors include Spotlight by Tom McCarthy, Room by Lenny Abrahamson, The Revenant by Alejandro G. Inarritu, Mad Max Fury Road by George Miller and The Big Short by Adam McKay.
